The iTero intraoral scanner is an alternative to old-fashioned impressions of your mouth.
In the past, you had to bite down on oozing, messy putty to create accurate molds of your teeth. This type of “old school” impression is also subject to imperfections such as tears and voids, which can affect the fit and efficacy of orthodontic hardware. With the iTero digital dentistry advancement, you can skip the goop altogether because the impressions process is digital. How does the iTero scanning process work?
You or your family member can relax in the chair while your Frisco Dental Professionals care provider moves the small scanning wand around your mouth.
The small scanning unit combines laser and LED light to scan and record 3D images of your teeth and soft tissues. The iTero intraoral scanner captures 6,000 incredibly detailed and accurate images per second, which means that your whole mouth scan is complete in a matter of minutes.
In about a minute, you can view the impression of you or your child’s mouth on a nearby screen, allowing for participation in the process and a greater understanding of the planned orthodontic adjustments or appliances. The 100% digital impression is then forwarded to our dental laboratory, where custom Invisalign trays or other orthodontic appliances are made to exact specifications, ensuring a perfect fit and great results!
What happens after my iTero mouth scan?

How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign is a clear plastic teeth straightening device. The removable Invisalign aligners fit perfectly over the top of your teeth because they’re custom-made using your iTero intraoral scan. You have one aligner for each arch (top and bottom), and you generally wear the aligners for 20-22 hours daily.
